# Fathom

## What it is

**Fathom** is an AI meeting assistant that records, transcribes, and summarizes video calls (Zoom, Google Meet). It is the summit's canonical example of **Passive Level 3** AI — see [[concept-active-level-3]].

## Why it's the canonical Passive Level 3 example

- It runs **autonomously in the background** (Level 3 territory).
- But its output is **static** — a transcript and summary the human still has to read and act on.

To elevate Fathom-style passive output into Active Level 3, you would layer a playbook that takes the transcript, identifies action items, and triggers follow-up workflows — see [[framework-playbook-outline]].

## Fathom's positioning

*"Fathom records, transcribes, and summarizes your meetings so you can focus on the conversation."*
